SCEP is an internship program that provides student participants work experience related to their academic field with the opportunity to be non-competitively appointed to the Federal service upon graduation. From the Heinz College class of 2009, two students were hired into EPA through this program – Jason Bossie and Mickey Young.

EPA organizations participating in SCEP include the Office of Prevention, Pesticides and Toxic Substances (OPPTS), the Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance (OECA), Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO), Office of Environmental Information (OEI) and the Office of Air and Radiation. EPA provides a variety of opportunities in Washington, DC, for scientific, policy-related, finance, information technology, economic analysis and resource management positions and scientific and engineering opportunities at the environmental forensics lab in Denver, CO.
