Systems Presentation: Pre-Investment Assessment Recommendations for Social Innovation Fund Awards

Description: Our systems project team has developed an impact assessment tool for use by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) in determining what social enterprises to support through the Social Innovation Fund (SIF). The tool allows the CNCS to compare net social benefits of different organizations to ensure the investment portfolio that will yield the highest social benefit and, at the same time, minimize potential costs to society. Accompanying the tool are recommendations for its use, as well as recommendations for the implementation of the Social Innovation Fund more broadly. While the tool is designed for use by the CNCS for the SIF, it could be adapted for use by other government entities or even by foundations and other grantmakers. At our final presentation we will provide an overview of the tool and its application, and discuss our recommendations for consideration by the CNCS.
