Work Study Eligible Students

ELIGIBILTY FOR STUDENTS:

Heinz College participates in the FWS/FCSWS programs, which are need-based federal financial aid programs that provide part-time employment to eligible students who need the earnings to help meet their educational expenses. The programs encourage students receiving FWS assistance to seek employment in the community (within an eligible organization).  Heinz students generally do not receive academic credit for work performed under the FWS/FCSWS programs.

Student eligibility is determined from information provided on the student’s Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and Heinz College Financial Aid Application. Students seeking summer term Federal Work Study positions must have completed the FAFSA and Heinz College Financial Aid Application for both the previous and upcoming academic year. Highest consideration is given to applicants who complete the financial aid application process by the suggested deadline. Continuing students must meet satisfactory academic progress requirements to be eligible and remain eligible for Federal Work Study including Federal Community Service Work Study.

A work study award is part of a student’s financial aid package and may impact a student’s eligibility for other financial aid, including but not limited to, need-based financial aid such as federal Perkins loans and other federal loans.

To be eligible a student must meet all the following requirements::

  • Be enrolled as a regular student in an eligible program of study.
  • Be eligible for Federal Financial Aid.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or Federal Aid eligible noncitizen.

FINANCIAL NEED: Federal work study is based on financial need. Eligibility for federal work study is determined by taking the published cost of attendance for the program, less the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) from the FAFSA, less external sources of financial aid (if any), less institutional scholarship, less immediately preceding Summer net Federal Community Service Work Study earnings (if any).

RELIGIOUS ORDERS:  A member of a religious order (an order, community, society, agency, or organization) who is pursuing a course of study at Heinz College is considered to have no financial need if that religious order has as its primary objective the promotion of ideals and beliefs regarding a Supreme Being, requires its members to forego monetary or other support substantially beyond the support it provides, and directs the member to pursue the course of study or provides subsistence support to its members.
