Carnegie Mellon University’s H. John Heinz III College, in partnership with AmeriCorps, awards AmeriCorps members a minimum scholarship of $6,000 per semester through the Heinz College – AmeriCorps Scholarship Program.
Heinz College awards the scholarship to former AmeriCorps members who are entering one of the College’s full-time graduate degree programs. The award will be made at the time of admission (no separate application is necessary). To be considered for the scholarship, Heinz College applicants should indicate their involvement with AmeriCorps on the application for admission. Eligible students will receive at least $6,000 per semester, and most students will receive more.
The Heinz College – AmeriCorps Scholarship Program has been established as part of Heinz College’s commitment to promoting innovative decision-making and diverse perspectives in leadership in education policy-making, similar to the mission of AmeriCorps.
Each year, a maximum of ten qualified students in the MSPPM program’s incoming class can be awarded the Heinz College - AmeriCorpsScholarship.

Eligibility
The program is designed for AmeriCorps members who have been admitted to the MSPPM program.
Prerequisites
The MSPPM program does not have formal prerequisites for admission. However, because the curriculum is highly quantitative, students should take at least one class in statistics, economics and in pre-calculus. Students who have not taken this coursework may be required to attend a summer program at the Heinz College for four weeks prior to the start of their program. There is no tuition for the summer program.
Both institutions understand that curricular requirements within the MSPPM program are subject to change based on periodic program reviews. Both institutions also agree that the specifics of this agreement may be open for review and discussion in the future, including the number of students who can enroll, programs to be included, and admissions requirements.
Admissions Requirements
AmeriCorps members will apply to the MSPPM program via the Heinz College online application system. To apply, prospective students must take the GRE (or GMAT), complete an application form, and submit transcripts from all universities attended, three letters of recommendation, a statement of purpose and a resume. Students can apply on-line for free. Students are granted admission on the basis of academic achievement, performance on the GRE, experience in the proposed field of study, leadership experience, fit of their goals with the program, and recommendations that indicate they are capable of excelling in a rigorous master’s program. No single factor guarantees or prevents admission; all factors are weighed in the process.
