Carnegie Mellon University’s H. John Heinz III College, in partnership with the Greenlining Institute for Public Policy, is pleased to announce the creation of the Heinz College – Greenlining Scholarship Program.
Starting in 2011, Heinz College will award the scholarship to former Greenlining Summer Associates and Fellows who are entering one of the College’s full-time graduate degree programs. The award will be made at the time of admission (no separate application is necessary). To be considered for the scholarship, Heinz College applicants should indicate their involvement with Greenlining on the application for admission. Eligible students will receive at least $6,000 per semester, and most students will receive more.
The scholarship has been established as part of Heinz College’s commitment to promoting innovative decision-making and diverse perspectives in leadership across the public, non-profit and private sectors, similar to the mission of the Greenlining Institute.
The Greenlining Leadership Academy was established in 1996 to prepare the next generation of multi-ethnic leaders to address the most critical policy issues facing our nation. The Academy offers advocacy training and hands on public policy experience to students and young people seeking to acquire these skills and build vital social networks that will enhance their effectiveness as future advocates. Greenlining’s vision is to empower a cadre of leaders ready to enter non-profit, private and public sectors and work collaboratively to create social change. Through its programs, the Academy has trained and nurtured over 700 young people.
Heinz College’s School of Public Policy and Management continually stays a step ahead of changes in public affairs, technology, and management education. Heinz College was the first public affairs school to understand the importance of technology as both a management tool and policy area. The School of Public Policy and Management’s interdisciplinary approach fosters exceptional programs in emerging issues in the public interest, as well as in well-established managerial and policy areas. Heinz offers master’s programs focusing on critical niche areas, such as the arts, entertainment, the public sector, and healthcare—those that are concerned about the public good.
Heinz College’s Master of Science in Public Policy and Management (MSPPM) program aims to distinguish itself from other public policy graduate degree programs. The curriculum is focused on developing leadership, quantitative analysis and technology skills that no other institution can match. The MSPPM program offers a three-semester track and a traditional two-year track in Pittsburgh. The MSPPM also offers a two-year track split between Pittsburgh and Washington, D.C., with students spending one year in each city.
