Carnegie Mellon University’s H. John Heinz III College, in partnership with the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU), has created 2 Scholarship programs to benefit qualified alumni of HACU’s Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI) member schools and HACU’s National Internship Program (HNIP).
The Heinz College-HSI tuition reduction scholarship and the Heinz College-HNIP tuition reduction scholarship are awarded at the time of admission (no separate application is necessary), and the student to whom the tuition reduction scholarship has been provided will receive a tuition reduction of at least $6,000 U.S. per semester enrolled (for each scholarship!!). To be considered for a tuition reduction scholarship award, an eligible applicant should indicate his or her involvement with the HIS & HNIP on his or her application for admission.
Please refer the sections below for more detailed information.

Eligibility for Heinz College-HSI scholarship
The partnership program is designed for students who have completed their bachelor’s degree at a HACU member school that qualifies as a Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI), according to HACU’s definition (colleges or universities where total Hispanic enrollment constitutes a minimum of 25% of the total enrollment).
Eligibility for Heinz College-HNIP scholarship
The partnership program is designed for participants who have completed the HACU National Internship Program and who also have successfully completed their bachelor’s degree.
A student could potentially apply and get both the scholarships at the same time. In addition, students also have the ability to apply for the Marco Delgado Fellowship to supplement their financial needs. Please visit this page to get more information on the Marco Delgado Fellowship.
Prerequisites
There are no formal prerequisites courses for admission. However, because the curriculum is highly quantitative, prospective students should take at least one college-level course in statistics, economics and in pre-calculus. Heinz College encourages prospective students to take these courses during their undergraduate studies. A prospective student who has not taken this coursework may be required, as a condition to his or her acceptance into the master’s program, to attend a summer quantitative skills program at the Heinz College (approximately four weeks in duration) prior to the start of the first semester in the master’s program. There is currently no tuition charge to attend this summer program.
The Heinz College’s Master of Information Systems Management (MISM) program requires at least one college-level programming course prior to enrollment. The Master of Science in Biotechnology and Management (MSBTM) program requires its students to hold a bachelor’s degree in a science or engineering field.
Admissions Requirements
Prospective students are advised to apply for admission to the graduate program of interest in the fall semester of their senior year. HACU National Interns who have also successfully completed their bachelor’s degree are eligible for the scholarship award described below. To apply to Heinz College’s master’s program, prospective students must take the GRE (or GMAT), complete the Heinz College required application form, and submit transcripts from all universities attended, three letters of recommendation, a statement of purpose and a resume to the Heinz College. Prospective students may apply on-line for free. Students are granted admission to Heinz College on the basis of academic achievement, performance on the GRE, experience in the proposed field of study, leadership experience, fit of their goals with the program, and recommendations that indicate they are capable of excelling in a rigorous master’s program. No single factor guarantees or prevents admission; all factors are weighed in the process. All admission decisions are within the sole discretion of Heinz College.
