National Alliance for Media Arts and Culture

Carnegie Mellon University’s H. John Heinz III College, in partnership with the National Alliance for Media Arts and Culture, is pleased to announce the creation of the Heinz College-National Alliance for Media Arts and Culture Scholarship.

Heinz College will award the scholarship to incoming students in the Master of Arts Management (MAM) program who are members of the NAMAC. The award will be made at the time of admission (no separate application is necessary). To be considered for the scholarship, Heinz College applicants should indicate their NAMAC membership on the application for admission. Eligible students will receive at least $6,000 per semester, and most students will receive more. The scholarship has been established as part of Heinz College’s commitment to promoting innovative decision-making and diverse perspectives in leadership across the public, non-profit and private sectors, similar to the mission of the National Alliance for Media Arts and Culture.

NAMAC was founded in 1980 by an eclectic group of media arts organization leaders who realized they could strengthen their social and cultural impact by working as a united force. Their idea was as bold as it was simple: to create a national organization that would provide support services to its institutional members, and advocate for the field as a whole. Since its founding, NAMAC has worked to raise the profile and influence of the media arts on behalf of its growing and changing membership. NAMAC serves its members by conducting research and analysis, offering leadership training and advocating on the behalf of the field.

Eligibility
The program is designed for NAMAC members who have been admitted to the MAM program.

Prerequisites
The MAM program does not have formal prerequisites for admission. However, because the curriculum is highly quantitative, students should take at least one college-level class in statistics, economics and in pre-calculus. Students who have not taken this coursework may be required to attend a summer program at the Heinz College for four weeks prior to the start of their program. There is no tuition for the summer program.

Admissions Requirements
NAMAC members will apply to the MAM program via the Heinz College online application system. To apply, prospective students must take the GRE (or GMAT), complete an application form, and submit transcripts from all universities attended, three letters of recommendation, a statement of purpose and a resume. Students can apply on-line for free. Students are granted admission on the basis of academic achievement, performance on the GRE, experience in the proposed field of study, leadership experience, fit of their goals with the program, and recommendations that indicate they are capable of excelling in a rigorous master’s program. No single factor guarantees or prevents admission; all factors are weighed in the process.
