Texas Legislative Internship Program

In conjunction with its newly established partnership with TexasLegislative Internship Program (TLIP), Carnegie Mellon University’s H. John Heinz III College is proud to announce the creation of the Heinz College- TexasLegislative Internship ProgramScholarship. Beginning in 2009, Heinz College will award the scholarship to incoming students in the Master of Science in Public Policy and Management (MSPPM) program who have been members of TLIP. The award will be made at the time of admission (no separate application is necessary) and the student will receive at least $6,000 per semester – most will receive more. To be considered, applicants should indicate their involvement with TLIP on the application for admission.

At Heinz College, we aim to distinguish ourselves from other public policy graduate degree programs. So we created a curriculum that is focused on developing leadership, quantitative analysis and technology skills that no other institution can match. We offer a one-year trackand a traditional two-year trackin Pittsburgh. We also offer a two-year track split between Pittsburgh and Washington, D.C., with students spending one year in each city. Students can design their own concentration or pursue a pre-defined concentration in policy analysis, financial management and analysis, urban and regional economic development, management, environmental policy, health policy, international policy, or social entrepreneurship.

Admissions Requirements
AmeriCorps members will apply to the MSPPM program via the Heinz College online application system. To apply, prospective students must take the GRE (or GMAT), complete an application form, and submit transcripts from all universities attended, three letters of recommendation, a statement of purpose and a resume. Students can apply on-line for free. Students are granted admission on the basis of academic achievement, performance on the GRE, experience in the proposed field of study, leadership experience, fit of their goals with the program, and recommendations that indicate they are capable of excelling in a rigorous master’s program. No single factor guarantees or prevents admission; all factors are weighed in the process.
