MISM Allegheny College 3+2 Program
Heinz College and Allegheny College offer an Accelerated Master’s Program to qualified Allegheny College students. The program—structured as three years at Allegheny College followed by three semesters at Heinz—results in students receiving both a bachelor's and master's degree in less time than is normally required.
Who's Eligible?
Allegheny College students who have completed their junior year are eligible to apply to the accelerated program. The Heinz College admits a maximum of five qualified Allegheny College students annually under this agreement. Students applying in junior year of their study are eligible to enroll in the senior year i.e. Allegheny students will need to complete the MISM application process by the January 10th Deadline in their junior year.
Application Requirements
Students can apply online for free in the fall of their junior year for admission at the start of their senior year. To apply, students must:
- Take the GRE (or GMAT).
- At least one college level programming course is required prior to applying.
- Complete an online application form (including resume/CV ) and the Undergraduate Course Requirements form with advisor's signature.
- Write an essay describing why you want to enroll in the MISM program and how it will assist in achieving your future career goals.
- Submit an official Allegheny transcript, along with transcripts from all colleges and universities attended, regardless of whether credit or degree was obtained.
- Provide three letters of recommendation, including two or three from Allegheny College faculty; one of the letters may be from a professional contact – i.e. internship supervisor, hourly position supervisor.
- Work experience and completed bachelor’s degree requirement are waived for students applying under this agreement as the design of the program has you entering prior to earning your bachelor's degree
- Complete an interview (Contact the admissions office to schedule).
Students are granted admission on the basis of academic achievement, performance on the GRE, leadership experience, related experience in the proposed field of study, fit of their goals with the program, and recommendations indicating their capability of excelling in this intensive program. All factors are weighed in the process.
Degree Requirements
- 180 units are required to complete the MISM program.
- Upto 24 units of relevant undergraduate coursework with a grade of B or higher can be transferred while enrolled in the MISM program and are counted toward the 180 units.
- Successful completion of an approved summer internship after graduating with a bachelor’s degree.
Tuition and fees
Students pay tuition and fees to Allegheny College from their freshman through junior years. They pay tuition and fees to Heinz College for the following three semesters after the completion of the junior year. Allegheny students will also pay a maintenance fee to Allegheny while enrolled at Heinz in their senior year.
Conferral of Degrees
Students receive both the bachelor’s and master’s degrees upon completion of the graduate program. Allegheny College will count units taken during the master’s program toward the student’s bachelor’s degree according to its policies and procedures. Heinz College will forward to Allegheny College transcripts and other necessary information on student academic performance.
Scholarships and Financial Aid
Allegheny students are eligible for scholarship support from Allegheny through their junior years. They are eligible for scholarship support from Heinz for the length of their graduate program and can apply for any Heinz scholarship funds for which they are eligible (based on program and individual scholarship fund’s requirements). Because Allegheny College students will not receive their bachelor’s degrees until completing the master's degree, the federal government mandates that Allegheny process federal financial aids (loans).
