Social Insecurity: Heinz College Researchers Find SSNs Can Be Predicted from Publicly Available Information
Researchers at Carnegie Mellon's H. John Heinz III College have shown that public information readily gleaned from governmental sources, commercial data bases, or online social networks can be used to routinely predict most — and sometimes all — of an individual’s nine-digit Social Security number.

Interdisciplinary Research Opportunities
Heinz College's iLab is a research center consisting of faculty and students from Heinz College, the Department of Statistics, the Department of Machine Learning, the School of Computer Science and the Tepper School of Business.
iLab was created to facilitate problem-driven, interdisciplinary research on IT management and policy problems and to enable innovative multidimensional collaborations between iLab faculty, students and organizational partners.
