HCPM Health Courses

The core health courses of the HCPM program are taught by a distinguished faculty who are leading researchers and practitioners in their fields. Students are offered a diverse array of courses that provides them with a solid foundation to understand the structure and functioning of health systems and the contextual factors that influence them. Health core courses enable students to develop competencies in core areas valued by a diverse range of employers including:

  • Health policy formulation, implementation and evaluation
  • Management and structural analysis of healthcare organizations (including evaluation and redesign)
  • Operations assessment and improvement
  • Legal principles development, application and assessment
  • Governance – structure, roles, responsibilities and alignment to leadership
  • Financial analysis and management

The health core is supplemented by:

  • Independent projects—students are allowed to create up to a 12 unit course which they can take directly with a faculty member to augment their learning in one of the core health courses listed below.
  • Course projects—most of the health core classes involve student projects that allow students to work to solve real life healthcare policy and management problems.
