Education Policy Club

Mission
Promote knowledge and understand of the state of education in America by creating a forum to share knowledge and experience in the field of education, participate in outreach with Pittsburgh public schools, further promote the study of education on campus, and gain exposure to the field through alumni networking and attending education conferences.

Introduction
The education policy club was formed:

  • To offer Heinz College students an opportunity to learn about and discuss important issues in the field of education policy and practice
  • To give students the chance to learn from innovative education professionals active in the field
  • To support students in their efforts at pursuing impactful education policy oriented careers

This past year, the Education Policy Club took part in numerous exciting events. We attended a private screening of “Waiting for Superman” and discussed our reactions to the movie with key education stakeholders in Pittsburgh, listened to Geoffrey Canada speak about the Harlem Children’s Zone in Downtown Pittsburgh, and hosted a Heinz Forum on the state of American education, in addition to several other events. We are excited about the future of the club and look forward to hosting many more events next semester including an education alumni networking dinner and a site visit to the Harlem Children’s Zone.
