Mission

Serve as a network and encourage collaboration at the intersection of energy, environment, and emerging technologies.

Goals

♦  Bring together people interested in energy, environment, and the emerging technologies related to those fields
♦  Promote dialog and information sharing between students, faculty, and industry professionals
♦  Encourage interdepartmental collaboration
♦  Foster professional development
♦  Promote the Carnegie Mellon and Heinz brand in the industry
♦  Act as an incubator for innovative student projects
♦  Grow a sustainable network of local, regional, and federal connections

Current Officers

President, Bala Kattappuram - Bala is currently a Master of Sciences in Public Policy and Management student at the Heinz School. He completed his undergraduate in electrical engineering at the University of South Alabama, and worked as a transmission line design engineer at Florida Power and Light for 4.5 yrs. Bala has lived in Lagos, Nigeria and Kerala, India.

Executive VP, Juli Digate - Juli is currently on the MSPPM-DC track; prior to coming to Heinz, she graduated magna cum laude from Ball State University with a double BA in Political Science and French. Past experiences include analysis of international climate negotiations, research on emerging technologies in the nuclear and coal energy fields, and business development work with a national energy services firm. Looking ahead, Juli would like to work in a research-based position in the public sector to address these issues.

VP of External Affairs, David Voll

VP of Finance, Edayatu Lamptey - Edayatu graduated from Allegheny College, in Meadville, majoring in Political Science and minoring in Biology. She is a 2-semester MSPPM student with a concentration in International Development.

VP of Marketing, Christina Farber - Christina is a MSPPM 3-semester track student at Heinz College. She has lived in Pittsburgh for 6 years, working for environmental non-profit organizations on community development, sustainability, and urban design. Her primary interest in energy policy is examining how local and state governments can support businesses developing renewable energy infrastructure.

VP of Media, Farhad Farahmand - Farhad is a first year MS in Public Policy and Management Candidate at Heinz College. He graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in mechanical engineering, and worked as a sustainability consultant in the building industry for 3 years before coming to Heinz. Farhad enjoys policy research concerning sustainable development.

VP of Operations, Becca Gillespie - Becca is a first year MSPPM student with a concentration in Energy Policy. Her interest in energy policy relates to energy and policy externalities. She graduated with a B.S.Eng. from Princeton in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. She spent most of her career working as an engineer at NASA, Goddard Space Flight center, as a Propulsion Engineer on the Solar Dynamics Observatory and later as a Technology Manager at the Innovative Partnerships Program Office.
