Resources for Veterans
Heinz College has been named a Military Friendly School for 7 years running! G.I. Jobs magazine named Heinz College as a military friendly school starting in 2010 and the tradition continues up to today. This honor ranks us among the top 15% of all colleges and universities nationwide.
33,000 of the residents of Pittsburgh are veterans. 15% of western Pennsylvania’s population is veterans. Our region is a great place for veterans and their families, and our city is home to a number of veterans resources, including the University Drive Division of VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System, Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum, and numerous social and professional organizations such as the Veterans Leadership Program of Western Pennsylvania.
If you're a prospective student and would like to connect with a current student or a graduate of the Heinz College who is also a Military Veteran, please send an email to the Office of Admissions to submit your request (with Subject: Ambassador Request: Military Veteran).
Veterans Education Benefits at Heinz College
The Office of Financial Aid works with our veterans to identify financial resources available through the university and the government, including the Yellow Ribbon Program and scholarship awards specific to military and veterans.
Veterans Campus Community at Carnegie Mellon University
Carnegie Mellon University Student Veterans and Family Association
The CMU Student Veterans and Family Association (SVFA) is a collection of affiliates of Carnegie Mellon University who share a common thread of military service as well as those who support veterans within the campus community. The purpose of the CMU SVFA is to facilitate the development of relationships, to serve as an information bridge between veterans and members of the campus population, and to infuse the Carnegie Mellon University faculty, staff, and students, with a sense of dedication to service, internally and across the greater Pittsburgh region.
Heinz Veterans Association
The Heinz Veterans Association is a non-partisan student-led veterans group at Carnegie Mellon University. We exist to support military veterans and to help our student veterans smoothly make the transition from military to civilian life while ensuring academic success. Our group is dedicated to providing a base where student veterans can meet in a friendly atmosphere and openly encourage participation of non-veterans. The Heinz Student Veterans Association wants to build an environment on campus that is supportive of and friendly to veterans.
