Scott Andes
Professor of Practice
Scott Andes is the Professor of Practice at Heinz College and the Senior Strategic Advisor for Economic Development at Carnegie Mellon University.
Scott served in the Biden-Harris Administration in the Department of Commerce where he led both the $1 billion Build Back Better Regional Challenge, and The Distressed Areas Recompete Program and as a Policy Advisor for the Regional Tech Hubs program. Prior to the Administration, Scott was the Executive Director at Carnegie Mellon University’s Block Center for Technology & Society and led the City Innovation Ecosystem program at the National League of Cities that partnered with over 60 mayors to support local innovation, workforce & entrepreneurship. He was a Fellow at the Brookings Institution where he has over 100 publications in regional innovation and economic growth. Prior to Brookings, Scott was Special Assistance to Senator Charles Schumer and worked on numerous political campaigns. He has degrees from Carnegie Mellon University and the London School of Economics. He lives in DC with his wife Sasha & extremely high-energy, four-year-old son, Max.
