Dr. Kim J. Hyatt
Professor / Executive Director, Heinz XR Lab & Lending Library / University Education Council
Professor Hyatt serves as the Executive Director of the Heinz Extended Reality (XR) Lab and Lending Library at Carnegie Mellon University. She also teaches graduate communication courses for CMU's Heinz College, the School of Information Systems Management and the School of Public Policy and Management. Her research explores how generative AI and multi-user mixed reality (MR) experiences can transform professional communication. This includes building professional relationships through avatar interactions, crafting immersive storytelling experiences that captivate and inform audiences, and enabling dynamic teamwork through real-time interaction and shared virtual spaces. Outside of her work at CMU, Kim works as an educational and instructional technology consultant, focusing on curriculum development and assessment. She is also the founder of Team RobotiX, a nonprofit STEAM organization that links K-12 students and teachers with Pittsburgh professionals through community outreach initiatives.
